valentine?

One week has passed since the hype of Valentine's Day. What a can of worms!

Personally, I think that this particular day is an important reminder to people who do not regularly tell the important people in their life that they love them to do so.

Too many people are mentally and physically abused, manipulated and neglected - adults and children. While, just like any 'holiday', the message behind the day and what it 'should' look like can be blown out of proportion by the media, businesses and various others, surely a day that encourages showing love and appreciation can't be that bad? Afterall, there are many different ways to show that you love someone - not just a dozen long-stemmed red roses!

The idea of Valentine's Day shouldn't stop at telling your significant other that you love them. Think about the special people in your life - close friends, your parents and siblings or other family members, maybe a colleague. You could show your appreciation to them by sincerely thanking them for something or telling them that you enjoy their friendship/effort/support/love - and the list could go on but I urge you to try it soon.

(For the record, I am fortunate enough to be in a relationship where I am told I am loved, just as I am, daily. I didn't receive any gifts this year and that's ok with me. I really enjoyed planning some special things for my man because I was home and sorta bored - although he promptly gave his flowers to his Mum.....)

why?

Why is my blog called "to love"?

A little background: I'm not great at making 'New Year's Resolutions', mainly because 1) I forget to, and 2) if I miss just one day of doing whatever I'm supposed to (or not) be doing, I label myself a complete failure - not so helpful!

Instead, in 2012 + beyond, my ongoing aim is 'to love' people more.

Sometimes, historically, I can be moody, judgemental, inconsistent, unsympathetic and occasionally just plain mean. I don't want to be like that - hence my 'to love' aim.

In my blog posts, I want to appreciate, be thankful, encourage and promote good. These are some things I think will help spread the love, or so to speak! Yes, sounds unbelievably sappy - but I challenge you to think about how you could do the same - I think it'll be challenging, but rewarding.

storm

I have a confession.

I actually enjoy a storm.

I love the drama of gun-metal grey clouds - almost blue, white cracks of lightning, the rumble of thunder and sweet fresh rain drops painting the side walk.

When all the drama has ended, I love when I get to stay at home on a rainy day. Hearing a steady drizzle of rain makes me feel relaxed, secure and, best of all, I manage to achieve a lot!
